GENKI Vol. 2 is the second half of one of the most widely used beginner Japanese textbook series, covering Lessons 13 to 23. It takes you from JLPT N5 to N4, though the grammar goes deep enough that strong learners will be pushing toward N3 territory by the end. Each lesson follows the same structure as Vol. 1: dialogue, grammar, and practice, with a corresponding reading and writing section that introduces 170 new kanji. Audio is available through the OTO Navi app.
The grammar is noticeably harder than Vol. 1. You'll cover passive and causative verb forms, conditionals, honorific and humble language, and giving and receiving verbs. The reading passages are longer and more varied too, covering letters, essays, short stories, and ads. The later lessons in particular tend to slow people down.
It pairs with GENKI Workbook 2 for reinforcement. Grammar coverage is solid for N4, though you'll likely need extra vocabulary work before the exam.
