Description

Shin Kanzen Master N3 Grammar is a 3-part book organised around the three grammar question types on the JLPT. Part 1 covers sentence grammar (choosing the correct grammar form), with grammar points grouped by meaning and function so that similar or easily confused forms are studied side by side. Part 2 covers sentence composition (putting sentence fragments in the right order), focusing on quotation, noun modification, and set patterns. Part 3 covers passage-level grammar: tense, transitivity, passive and causative, giving and receiving, demonstratives, topic and subject markers, conjunctions, and tone consistency across a text. There are two mock tests at the end. Answers are in a separate 7-page booklet. English and Chinese translations are provided for explanations.

This is the strongest book in the N3 set and the one most consistently recommended by learners who have passed the exam. Its real strength is how it handles similar grammar points. Rather than listing forms one at a time, it groups them so you learn the differences between forms like ばかり, よう, and わけ in context. The passage-level grammar section in Part 3 is also unusually thorough for this level and sets you up well for N2. Some learners find the explanations insufficient for self-study if you're encountering a grammar point for the first time, so it works best as a consolidation tool after you've already had some exposure through a textbook or class.
