JLPT Speed Master N2 Grammar

JLPT Speed Master N2 Grammar opens with 12 rounds of warm-up review drills covering N3 grammar, then moves into Part 1 where N2 patterns are introduced eight at a time. Each unit presents the patterns through 3-4 example sentences and short reading passages, followed by three drills. Review exercises appear after every five units. The book finishes with three full mock tests. Answers are in a separate booklet.

Speed Master is the lightest of the three main N2 grammar books. It groups patterns by form, which makes the book straightforward to work through, but the explanations are brief. Nihongo Sou Matome N2 Grammar has no N3 review section but covers more points. Shin Kanzen Master N2 Grammar is the heaviest and the most widely recommended of the three. It covers 211 points, groups by meaning rather than form, but is entirely in Japanese, so it's the hardest to work through. You will eventually need Shin Kanzen Master, but if you want an easier start, Speed Master or Sou Matome will get you moving.
