Shin Kanzen Master N3 Vocabulary covers around 1,200 words across two parts. Part 1 organises vocabulary by topic and everyday situation, covering relationships, daily life, health, hobbies and travel, education, work, society, nature, numbers, and time. Part 2 organises by word type and characteristics: Japanese-origin verbs, Sino-Japanese verbs, adjectives, adverbs, onomatopoeia, easily confused Sino-Japanese words, synonyms and paraphrasing, and word formation. Each lesson includes basic practice to confirm meaning, then exam-format practice. There are two mock tests at the end. Answers are in a separate 18-page booklet included with the book. English and Chinese translations are provided. Furigana throughout.
This is a solid book in the N3 set. The two-part structure means you encounter words both in natural groupings and by how they behave, which is useful because the JLPT tests vocabulary from both angles. The range of word types in Part 2, particularly easily confused Sino-Japanese words and onomatopoeia, reflects what actually comes up on the test. Some learners find it a lot to get through compared to So-matome, but the depth of coverage and variety of practice types are stronger here.
