Nihongo So-matome N5 covers all five sections of the JLPT N5 in a single book: kanji, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening. It's structured as an eight-week programme at two pages a day, working through kanji and vocabulary first, then grammar and reading, then listening. Each week ends with a review exercise in JLPT format, and there's a mock test at the end. Answers are in a separate 12-page booklet included with the book. Audio is downloadable from ASK's website and available on Spotify.
This is the revised multilingual edition (September 2023), which adds colour, mock tests, weekly review exercises, translated example sentences, and downloadable audio for the grammar section. English and Vietnamese translations are printed in the book. Portuguese, Indonesian, Nepali, Tagalog, Burmese, and Sinhala translations are available via QR codes.
It works best as a review after you have completed a beginner textbook like GENKI Vol. 1 or Minna no Nihongo I. Use it in the weeks before the test to check for gaps and get used to how questions are phrased on the actual exam.
